UNILAG WELCOMES NUC ACCREDITATION TEAMS FOR PROGRAM REVIEW 

Two teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) arrived the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the accreditation of the Building and Quantity Surveying (QS) programmes on Monday, November 18, 2024.On hand to receive the teams were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), and representative of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian Chukwu; Director, Academic Planning Unit, Prof. Olusoji Ilori; Deputy Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. Taiwo Ojapinwa; Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Modupe Omirin;, Head of Department of Building, Prof. John Ameh; Head of Department of QS, Dr. Oluseyi Ajayi; and some members of the two departments.Prof. Omotayo Aina of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife led the accreditation team for the Building programme while Prof. Ibrahim Inuwa of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi led the accreditation team for the Quantity Surveying programme.

In separate remarks, the team-leads emphasized that the exercise was not intended as a witch hunt, and that accreditation would adhere to NUC guidelines. Professor Aina highlighted that UNILAG’s Department of Building is the most significant Building Department in Nigeria, given that major complex constructions occur in Lagos.

He expressed optimism that the department will exceed the NUC’s expectations and demonstrate how UNILAG leverages its strategic location in Lagos, the nation’s commercial hub.

Prof. Atsenuwa, in response, welcomed the teams to the University and assured them of the University’s support.
