In the early hours of Monday, 12th of October, 2020, the students of the polytechnic Ibadan shut down the school gate in protest against the beginning of examinations.
According to the Press release, the school is not ready for resumption and several things have not been put in place.
While speaking with some of the activist, they complained about the exorbitant payments by students for services not rendered by the management.
Below is the Press statement by the Students.
“Students of The Polytechnic,Ibadan…
It’s time to wake up,
It’s time to stand for what is right,
How can we start exam when most of us haven’t paid school fees?
Remember that writing an examination without course form causes score sheet errors and delay in Students Registration, Result and we graduating early..
We really need to stand for our right.
The locked school gate
We want a Good and Stable Portal
ND 2 students that Completed their ND last year can’t obtain HND forms because Our results are not out yet.. (Is a year not enough to get our results ready?)
We heard that we don’t have an Health Insurance Scheme on Campus as we speak.. Yet we pay compulsorily for it yearly..
Internet Access is only enjoyed among management staffs.. Yet we pay for it yearly.. We want the internet to work effectively in our class areas and our hostels.
How do you expect us to compuldorily pay a fee of #1500 for Anticultisim textbook?
Can we even see the BREAKDOWN of Our School fees??????..
If the TSA scheme is not favourable to the Institution, then, something needs to be done. Don’t punish us for what we know nothing about …
Why should we pay for Matriculation Gown when we haven’t seen or heard any plans of holding a ceremony.. A message was sent by the Management on Saturday 10/10/2020,for us to collect our Matriculation Gown on Friday 9/10/2020.. Imagine collecting a day before being informed.. This is not justifiable
Our ND2 mates that graduated last year haven’t seen their result and as such can’t obtain HND form.. We want somthing to be done about this delay of results.
ND 2 students to write exams exactly after one year of not receiving lectures..
What would be our fate if the school can only provide 1 week for revision without having any class this semester?
We can’t print our last year Course Forms.. How do we graduate and get mobilized when the time is ripe..?
We would have the management attend to this issues as soon as possible.”
A placard of complaint
Another is more personal, and it’s anchored by the Unionist.
“Inline with all President in polytechnic Ibadan and the directive instruction been give by the SUG president and SUG welfare all Gate has been closed ……NO Examination* is going to hold today ……
South Gate closed
Sewage Gate closed
North. Gate closed
1)Masses are yet to pay school fee due to portal problem
2) mandatory of Faculty Registration
3)An those that went for SIWES. Kindly stay home safe
Word going around is that the students want to know the breakdown of the school fees, a better handling of the portal that has plunged the school into disarray for the past ten months, migration of the old portal.
The Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. S. A. Ajibola has announced the postponement of the examination till further notice. Further information from the school PRO, Alhaji Sholadoye states that the Examination has been postponed.
