NUC accredits 19 programmes in FUOYE

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited 19 courses at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) following approval for the establishment of the programmes.
This was contained in a circular signed by NUC’s Director of Accreditation, Dr. Maryam Sali, dated March 19, 2020. The implication of the development, according to the institution’s management is that all the programmes presented for accreditation are duly accredited albeit in varying degrees with the minority having interim accreditation.

The overall implication is that apart from the fact that all our programmes are accredited, we can start post graduate programmes for the ones presented for accreditation.
The courses are: Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, History and International Studies, Linguistics, Business Education, Education Agricultural Science, Education Biology and Education Chemistry.
Others are Education English, Education Mathematics, Education Management, Library and Information Science, Geology, Criminology and Security Studies, Mass Communication, Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution and Political Science.

NUC has the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in all Nigerian universities. Pursuant to this mandate and in consonance with the provisions of the current government approved guidelines, initial accreditation of a new programme is held after the programme run for two academic sessions following approval for the establishment of the programme.
“Thereafter, the commission accredits the approved programmes as and when due. Consequently, the NUC organised the accreditation of academic programmes at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti in October/November, 2019.
The statement however, drew the attention of the institution to the implications of the accreditation status earned by programmes of Nigerian universities: “Full accreditation status is valid for five years; interim accreditation valid for two years after which the programmes will be re-visited. Programmes that earn interim status after two visits shall revert to denied accreditation status,” the statement read.
