Bayero University Kano cancels 2019/20 session, announces resumption date

The Senate, Bayero University Kano, BUK, has approved the cancelation of 2019-2020 sessions for all undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the 2019-2020 session, which was disrupted by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, strike and COVID-19 outbreak will now be carried forward to 2021.

The senate, therefore, renamed the session as 2020-2021 .

Releasing a circular on December 30, the university registrar, Fatima Binta-Mohammed, said for the undergraduate, new academic session will now begin on January 18, 2021 as first semester, while the second semester will begin May 3, 2021.

For the
Postgraduate, the senate slated January 18 as first semester, while the second semester will begin on June 1.

The senate had also granted amnesty for Postgraduate students who did not register within the time frame to do so before the session begins.

Recall that the ASUU had embarked on an indefinite strike on March 23,2020, and resumed on December 22, exhausting almost nine months into the academic calendar.“`
