The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has scheduled an important National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to address issues impacting members’ welfare.
This meeting will be held at the ASUU Secretariat in Abuja and will be attended by principal and national officers, zonal coordinators, and branch chairmen.
Notifications have been sent to those expected to participate.
A national officer stated that certain assignments given to the zonal coordinators and branch chairmen during the last meeting at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, will be discussed by NEC members.
Our source did not confirm whether the Federal Government has introduced new items to the negotiation table or made decisions on unresolved issues that prompted this emergency NEC meeting.
“I am not aware of any new government positions on our demands. We have many outstanding issues requiring the Federal Government’s attention. Several letters have been written, but no positive response has been received.
“One thing I can tell you is that our members are agitated over withheld salaries, non-payment of academic earned allowances, and other issues affecting public universities in the country, which the government has failed to address,” he stated.
